Oh, the money. It was indeed both dirty and sexy. Unfortunately it was also both cheesy and silly, not to mention a tad predictable. This is likely why it was also canceled.
For those fans who so wanted to see Peter Krause in another hit show a la “Six Feet Under,” season two of “Dirty Sexy Money” was more like a bittersweet reminder of the short-lived “Sports Night.” And while “Sports Night” was a superior show to “Money,” they both ultimately fell victim to convoluted storylines mired in the overly complicated personal dramas of a few characters.
It is a shame, really. Because with its amazingly talented cast, “Money” should have been a success.
For those fans who missed parts of the second season (thanks to the writers strike and some bizarre air dates), watching the DVD is like attending a graduation ceremony. You remember the good times, marvel at the twists and turns of the journey, mourn the end, but mostly wonder what the future holds for your comrades.
I am particularly interested to see where Natalie Zea (Karen Darling) appears next. Karen was my favorite character, and it would seem I am not alone as there is an entire bonus featurette on Zea. The humorous “A Total Knockout: A Portrait of Natalie Zea” follows the actress on set for a day.
The other two featurettes — “Directing the Darlings,” which walks the audience through director Jamie Babbit’s turn at the helm, and “Dirty Sexy Crafty,” a strange look behind the scenes with craft services — are not particularly entertaining, although they are informative for those who are truly interested.
