Report: DreamWorks Animation in Distribution Talks With Sony Pictures16 Jul, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey
DreamWorks Animation is discussing a possible distribution deal with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, according to a Los Angeles Times report.
Quoting anonymous sources, the newspaper reported that few details have been agreed upon by the studios, and that DreamWorks Animation may still be in discussion with 20th Century Fox as well. The paper reported that DreamWorks Animation might look to Sony Pictures for domestic distribution and Fox for international.
DreamWorks’ distribution agreement with Paramount Pictures, which gives Paramount 8% of theatrical and home video revenue for DreamWorks releases, expires this year. The Los Angeles Times article quoted a source saying Paramount was still open to negotiating an extension of the agreement.
DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has said during earnings calls that his studio would like to have a new distribution agreement in place this fall.
