Study: Ringtones, Phone Downloads Overshadow Mobile Video

16 Jun, 2009 By: Isabella Hecht

MyMojo.com, an online destination to download ringtones, videos, wallpaper, games, applications and music to cell phones, has released stats analyzing media downloads from its site that reveal a shift away from mobile-video downloads.

Despite consumers’ rising interest in video, with the most popular hits being news, sports, and music videos, requests for the more traditional content such as ringtones and wallpaper heavily outweigh requests for mobile video. MyMojo users downloaded mobile video 4% of the time, compared to 71% for ringtones, 16% for wallpapers, and 9% for games and applications.

“We’ve seen incredible spikes in mobile content consumption, as more people gain access to smart phones and web-enabled devices,” said John Ferber, CEO of MyMojo. “The mobile content our users are proactively searching for and downloading closely mimics their preferences in music and television viewing habits.”
