RoxioNow Movie Downloads Coming to HDTVs15 Nov, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Sonic Solutions Nov. 15 said it has begun integrating its RoxioNow download technology into HDTV chipsets developed by Trident Microsystems Inc.
Sunnyvale, Calif.-based system-on-chip (SoC) maker Trident’s customers include numerous consumer electronics manufacturers and television brands.
The agreement affords Novato, Calif.-based Sonic Solutions to expand its RoxioNow technology beyond Blu-ray Disc players, media players, set-top boxes and mobile devices.
RoxioNow OEM customers include Best Buy, Sears, Kmart, and Blockbuster, among others.
Mark Ely, president of strategy with Sonic, said the agreement marks another step toward enabling consumers to seamlessly connect multiple media devices and watch entertainment content on their schedules.
“Trident’s role in the DTV chip market makes this an important agreement not simply for us, but for all the other companies — both manufacturers and content providers — that have committed to the RoxioNow platform,” Ely said.
