9 Jun, 2009 By: Thomas K. Arnold

Walt Disney Pictures is readying the second CG-animated “Tinker Bell” movie for DVD and Blu-ray Disc release Oct. 27. The initial “Tinker Bell” movie, which launched the Disney Fairies movie series, was released last year and became the top-selling direct-to-video film of the year, debuting at No. 1 on the weekly Nielsen VideoScan sales chart.

The follow-up, also premiering on disc, will be called Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure. Two additional films are in the pipeline; Disney says a fifth film, tentatively titled Tinker Bell: Race Through the Seasons, is now in development by DisneyToons Studios.

The Disney Fairies films are based on a series of books released in the beginning of 2005 by Disney Publishing Worldwide. So far, more than 18 million books have been sold. In addition to the books and movies, Disney is marketing a wide assortment of consumer products, from toys to apparel, that to date have generated more than $850 million in worldwide retail sales.
