Disney Unveils Details for 2014 ‘Jungle Book’ Blu-ray14 Nov, 2013 By: John Latchem
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced its next premium “Diamond Edition” Blu-ray will be 1967’s The Jungle Book on Feb. 11, 2014 (order date Dec. 31).
Based on the Rudyard Kipling story, The Jungle Book relays the adventures of Mowgli, a boy raised in the jungle, and his pal Baloo the bear. It was the last film Walt Disney worked on before his death in 1966.
The film will be released as a Blu-ray combo pack ($39.99) with DVD and digital copy, as well as via standalone DVD ($29.99) and digital versions.
New Blu-ray extras include introductions by Walt’s daughter, Diane Disney Miller, and songwriter Richard M. Sherman, an alternate ending, the featurettes “@DisneyAnimation: Sparking Creativity” and “Music, Memories & Mowgli: A Conversation with Richard M. Sherman, Diane Disney Miller and Floyd Norman,” Disney Intermission featuring Bear-E-Oke hosted by Baloo, a Bear-E-Oke sing-along and “I Wanna Be Like You — Hangin’ Out At Disney’s Animal Kingdom.” The DVD will include all the extras from the 2007 DVD release.
Disney’s second Diamond Edition release of 2014 will be the October release of Sleeping Beauty, previously released as a Platinum Edition Blu-ray in 2008.
That leaves 11 animated features from the classic Disney line still awaiting a domestic Blu-ray release: 1943’s Saludos Amigos, 1945’s The Three Caballeros, 1946’s Make Mine Music, 1947’s Fun and Fancy Free, 1948’s Melody Time, 1949’s The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, 1961’s 101 Dalmatians, 1985’s The Black Cauldron, 1992’s Aladdin, 1997’s Hercules and 1999’s Tarzan.
