Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment March 29 said it would release animation classic Beauty and the Beast on Blu-ray Disc plus DVD combo for the first time Oct. 5.

The Blu-ray/DVD combo pack ($39.99) is the second release of Disney’s Blu-ray Diamond Collection, which bowed last October with the first-time Blu-ray release of 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

A standard-DVD, two-disc release of Beauty ($29.99) is slated for Nov. 23.

Other titles scheduled for “Diamond” release through 2016 include Fantasia (1940), Fantasia 2000, The Lion King (1994), Bambi (1942), Cinderella (1950), Lady and the Tramp (1955), The Little Mermaid (1989), Peter Pan (1953), The Jungle Book (1967), 101 Dalmatians (1961), Sleeping Beauty (1959) and Pinocchio (1940).

The first of only two animated films ever to be nominated for an Academy Award for best picture (the second is 2009’s Up), Beauty and the Beast earned six Academy Award nominations and won two Oscars in 1992 for best original song (“Beauty and the Beast”) and best original score.
