Viewster Gets Warner Films

27 Jul, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey

Online VOD service Viewster has reached a distribution deal with Warner Bros. that will give Viewster users access to roughly 1,000 library titles.

The titles will first be available to Viewster users in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, followed by Poland, Russia, Turkey, UAE, India and countries in Southeast Asia.

Viewster will offer the titles for both rent and sellthrough.

“Warner Bros. is a legendary producer, as well as a hugely important owner of superb movie content,” said Viewster CEO Kai Henniges. “We are delighted that the studio has recognized Viewster as a great way to deliver content on multiple devices in rapidly developing markets, and we are excited about bringing their blockbuster releases and fantastic library to our users.”

Tim van Dyk, VP of digital distribution, for Warner Bros. Entertainment GmbH, added: “Providing consumers with more choices and improving the movie experience at home is at the heart of Warner Bros.' digital strategy. Viewster is an important platform, which can be accessed on many smart TV devices, as well as offering a cloud-based option for consumers to buy and store their favorite movies.”

Viewster also plans on making its titles UltraViolet-enabled, giving consumers access to their owned content across devices.

“We will be promoting Warner Bros.’ big new releases heavily throughout our ecosystem of devices: the Web, connected TV sets and tablets, all supported by the films’ own microsites”, Henniges said. “Our job is to help excite users about watching movies at home, or on the move, via Viewster.”
