USA Network Bows Updated iOS App for Next-Day Availability of Select Cable Shows3 Jul, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Dubbed ‘USA Anywhere Plus,’ the app is mysteriously absent from iTunes
NBC Universal-owned cable network USA Network July 3 reportedly bowed an updated edition of its “USA Anywhere” app that allows authenticated viewers access to select programing on Apple portable devices.
Programming available the day after initial broadcast includes episodes of “Graceland,” “Burn Notice,” “Covert Affairs,” “Psych” and “Suits,” among others. Shows streamed within 72 hours of initial broadcast include the same commercials, which qualifies them for tracking by Nielsen.
“It’s finally coming together this year,” Matt Bond, EVP of content distribution, told Bloomberg News. “We’re beginning to see widespread adoption in the industry and by viewers.”
USA Network is joining a growing bandwagon of content holders and distributors looking to expand TV Everywhere platforms to retain and lure subscribers in a market increasingly fragmented by subscription video-on-demand services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video and Hulu Plus.
Notably, USA Anywhere Plus remains unavailable on the iTunes Store. When searching for the app the following message appears: “The item you’ve requested is not currently available in the U.S. store.” The original USA Anywhere app is still available on iTunes.
A message left with NBC Universal was not immediately returned.
