Toshiba Bows TVs With Embedded DVR2 Oct, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel
New line of Regza HDTVs feature recommendation software
Toshiba Corp. unveiled at CEATEC in Japan a new series of Regza high-definition televisions that automatically record up to 40-hours of primetime channels and feature software that recommends programming based on the user’s viewing habits.
The embedded DVR operates similar to Dish Network’s Hopper device except without the latter’s controversial ad-skipping technology that allows users to automatically delete TV ads from recorded programming. TV networks have sued Dish over the AutoHop function.
Toshiba’s Z7 series TVs, which should hit the market this winter, feature 42-, 47- and 55-inch screen sizes in 1080p resolution and are priced starting at about $2,000.
