Sony Corp. Partners with Rovi

Rovi Corp. April 3 announced it had licensed its interactive program guide technology to Sony Corp., paving the way for the electronics giant to use Rovi technology in consumer electronics and online content delivery services.

“We are pleased that the relevance of our entertainment-related products and intellectual property continue to be recognized by industry leaders such as Sony,” said Matt Milne, EVP of worldwide sales and marketing for Rovi. “… Our IP and product portfolio is helping our customers drive customer satisfaction and new streams of revenue.”

The agreement covers Rovi’s entertainment metadata, which provides show descriptions, editorial reviews and multimedia content covering millions of TV shows and hundreds of thousands of movies. The agreement also includes Rovi’s Advertising Network, which connects consumer electronics companies to advertising brands that seek to engage consumers on their platforms.
