Popcornflix Tops 5 Million Users

20 Dec, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Popcornflix, the ad-supported streaming movie app from Screen Media Ventures LLC, said its software has been downloaded more than five million times to connected devices — up from two million devices in July.

The New York-based service recently said its portfolio of movies and TV shows had topped 1,000 titles, including full-length feature films in a wide range of genres, including action/thriller, comedy, family/kids, drama, horror, documentary and Bollywood.

Popcornflix recently launched FrightPIX on Roku, which focuses on horror films. In June it released an Android app that is compatible with smartphones, tablets and optimized for Android 4.0 and higher operating systems. The free app is currently available for download in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France and Scandinavia.

“Passing 5 million downloads on key devices is a critical milestone for the platform,” said Gary Delfiner, president of Screen Media Digital, a division of Screen Media Ventures, parent company of Popcornflix. “We are now beginning to see even faster growth as we continue to deploy more platforms and devices. Connected TV is the next big space for our expansion.”
