Google TV Heads to Europe26 Aug, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey
Speaking at a TV event in Edinburgh, Scotland, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said his company’s Google TV product will start showing up in Europe in 2012, according to numerous media reports.
Reuters reported that Schmidt warned British TV regulators that stifling the Internet is a losing cause.
“Some in the U.S. feared we aimed to compete with broadcasters or content creators. Actually our intent is the opposite,” he said, the news service reported.
“We seek to support the content industry by providing an open platform for the next generation of TV to evolve, the same way Android is an open platform for the next generation of mobile. We expect Google TV to launch in Europe early next year, and of course the U.K. will be among the top priorities.”
