CW Launches Digital-Only Studio

17 Aug, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey

The CW Network, co-owned by CBS Corp. and Warner Bros., has launched CW Seed, an online digital studio and website.

The site launched with four original web shows, including the third season of “Husbands,” and new comedies “The P.E.T. Squad Files,” “Gallery Mallory” and “Backpackers.”

CW also promised to debut new series — including “L.A. Rangers” from “Hart of Dixie” star Wilson Bethel — in the fall.

“Husbands” — created and produced by Brad Bell (VH1’s “Pop-Up Video”) and Jane Espenson (“Once Upon A Time,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) — follows a newly married gay couple: a tabloid personality played by Bell and a professional baseball player played by Sean Hemeon (“Bloomers”). The new season will feature guest stars Amy Acker (Much Ado About Nothing), Seth Green (“Robot Chicken”), Michael Hogan (“Teen Wolf”), Beth Grant (Donnie Darko) and Deb Theaker (Best in Show).

“Backpackers” sees an recently engaged man (Noah Reid, Titanic) searching Europe for his fiancée (Meghan Heffern, Almost Heroes), while “The P.E.T. Squad Files” is about a group of ex-community college students who deal in ghost hunting and extraterrestrial activity. “Gallery Mallory” is an animated comedy about a young woman working at a SoHo art gallery.
