Avail-TVN Gets Relativity Media Digital Content

The VOD, pay-per-view agreement is Relativity’s first digital deal

Digital media services company Avail-TVN May 23 said it signed a distribution deal with Relativity Media to distribute the movie producer’s new releases and library titles on transactional video-on-demand and pay-per-view across multiple platforms, including hotels and leisure industries.

Los Angeles-based Relativity has produced and/or financed more than 200 motion pictures, which have accumulated more than $15 billion in worldwide box office receipts. Recent films include Limitless, Oscar winner The Fighter and the upcoming Immortals.

Relativity has been aggressively pursuing the home entertainment market (physical and digital) following last year’s acquisition of Overture’s marketing and distribution teams, a Netflix licensing agreement and a Technicolor partnership.

In March Relativity and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment signed a multiyear packaged media distribution deal.

Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Avail-TVN recently distributed to its affiliate partners Relativity’s first VOD consumer releases including Skyline and I Love You Phillip Morris. Upcoming titles that will be available from Relativity through Avail-TVN include Biutiful, The Warrior’s Way, Season of the Witch and Take Me Home Tonight.

Thirty-six of the company’s films (most distributed through partnerships with the major studios) have opened to No. 1 at the box office and 55 of Relativity’s films have each generated more than $100 million in worldwide box-office receipts.

“The breadth of Avail-TVN’s reach allows us to easily expand our scope, reaching more viewers, on their own terms,” said Christine Manna, SVP of on demand licensing for Relativity.

In January Avail-TVN signed a similar digital deal with Epix, the pay-TV platform co-owned by Lionsgate, Paramount and MGM.
