AT&T U-verse Giving Free Tablet, Game Console With High-Speed Internet18 Mar, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
AT&T March 18 said it is offering new U-verse high-speed Internet subscribers their choice of a free tablet or video game console, including Xbox 360, Sonos Play: 3, Kindle Fire or a Nexus 7 Tablet.
Subscribers can use the devices to access on-demand programming in addition to Internet-delivered content through subscription video-on-demand, transactional VOD and electronic sellthrough.
As multichannel video program distributors attempt to sustain subscribers, they have increased marketing efforts to lure Internet and telephone subs. With the advent of subscription video-on-demand services and related entertainment options from the Web, marketing of broadband access has intensified.
Indeed, AT&T added 609,000 high-speed Internet subs in the fourth quarter of 2012 to reach a total of 7.7 million customers. About 55% of U-verse broadband subscribers have a plan delivering speeds up to 12 Mbps or higher.
“We know when customers bundle U-verse Internet, TV and voice services they have higher customer satisfaction and engagement,” said Mel Coker, chief marketing officer with AT&T Home Solutions. “Customers tell us that packing the services gives them even more reasons to love U-verse.”
Separately, AT&T bowed apps that allow U-verse subs to track and guide exercise workouts, in addition to playing songs from customers' mobile devices on their TVs.
