Aereo TV Coming to San Antonio3 Feb, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Aereo TV, the subscription platform that enables users to access over-the-air digital TV signals on portable devices, announced plans to roll out service in the greater San Antonio area on Feb. 19, which includes a 22-county area across Texas.
Aereo’s announcement follows expansion to the Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Salt Lake City, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Denver, Baltimore and Cincinnati metropolitan areas and follows the company’s announcement last month of $34 million in additional funding.
“[Aereo] is a simple and modern way to use an antenna to watch television,” CEO and founder Chet Kanojia said in a statement.
The $8 Aereo monthly membership offers access to a cloud-based antenna and 20 hours of DVR storage. For an additional $4 consumers can receive 60 hours of DVR storage.
Aereo rollout comes as the Manhattan, N.Y.-based service is headed to the U.S. Supreme Court to address appeals by broadcast networks seeking to shut down the service over alleged violations of copyrights and retransmission agreements, among other issues.
