There are now more than a billion consumer electronics products — more than 30,000 unique models — enabled with DivX video capability, Rovi Corp. announced.

“This amazing achievement was only possible with the continued support of leading consumer electronics manufacturers, service providers and a passionate audience of consumers,” said Bob Shallow, SVP of product sales and marketing for Rovi. “We are now focusing our broad range of new and existing DivX video technologies and long-standing device certification program on accelerating HEVC adoption, as exemplified by our demonstrations and announcements at IBC.”

Rovi also announced that Japanese movie distributor Kinema-Junposha will use the DivX video service to deliver content on consumer electronics devices. The service offers 1080p video, multi-language subtitles and audio tracks, quick start and future support for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265) codec.

“By using Rovi’s DivX technologies, Kinema-Junposha is able to provide tremendous value by delivering an enriched experience to our customers,” said Katsuyuki Shimizu, president of Kinema-Junposha. “Through Rovi’s technologies, we are able to expand our video distribution models and support a range of viewing options for our customers.”

Shallow added: “Rovi is dedicated to providing high-quality solutions to enable our clients to deliver and display video and that set the stage for seamless integration of advanced technologies like HEVC and 4K. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Kinema-Junposha to further fuel the market for advanced digital entertainment.”
