China, the world’s largest TV market with more than 388 million TV households, has included Dolby Digital Plus in a new digital standard for TVs and set-boxes.

The national Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting Receiver Specification goes into effect Nov. 1.

“We are honored that Dolby Digital Plus has been included in China’s national DTMB Receiver Specification,” said Mahesh Sundaram, VP of Asia Pacific for Dolby Laboratories. “This is a significant milestone in Dolby’s broadcast business and recognition of Dolby as a leading audio technology provider by the broadcast industry in China.”

Dolby audio is currently integrated into more than 50 consumer electronics products in China, and is used on 11 of 13 high-def channels in the country.
