CinemaNow Coming to India

21 Jul, 2009 By: Chris Tribbey

Sonic Solutions has partnered with set-top maker Verismo Networks in India to bring Roxio CinemaNow content to the region via IPTVs.

The July 17 announcement will make CinemaNow available to about 100,000 homes subscribing to ACT Television, and Sonic believes other consumer electronics companies in the region will take advantage of Sonic’s VuNow Internet TV platform, which handles CinemaNow.

“Our partnership with Verismo allows us to introduce consumers in India to the convenience, instant gratification and flexibility of digital entertainment from Roxio CinemaNow,” said Mark Ely, EVP of strategy for Sonic Solutions. “This latest agreement, along with our previously announced partnership with Zip.ca in Canada, is part of our broader strategy to make anytime, anywhere access to high-quality entertainment a reality for more consumers in more regions.”

Verismo’s IPTV platform allows for full Web-based content viewing on the big screen, and that company’s CEO, Prakash Bhalerao, said adding CinemaNow allows Verismo to offer “a next-generation cable box.”

“Teaming with Sonic enables us to expand and enhance our already rich line up of instantly accessible digital entertainment that includes linear TV channels as well as a range of Web-based content,” he said.
