Dreamer Technology Upgrades BD Players5 Jan, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey
Dreamer Corp. Jan. 5 is using the Consumer Electronics Show to unveil new technology that turns connected Blu-ray Disc players into HD set-top boxes.
The BluTV service can be accessed either through a disc or direct embedding on Blu-ray player chips. Once accessed it allows for video-on-demand, applications and content via the Internet to be loaded to the Blu-ray player, eliminating the need for other set-top boxes, the company said.
“At-home media consumption patterns are rapidly evolving, with consumers blending online video viewing habits alongside traditional disc-based formats,” said Dreamer CEO and president Won Baek. “Our BluTV platform also establishes an open applications marketplace for Blu-ray disc players, allowing content owners to reach consumers with widgets and tools that enhance and extend the entertainment experience.”
