CBS Bows App for ‘Survivor’ TV Show18 Sep, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
CBS Interactive has launched an app for the 27th season of realty TV series “Survivor: Blood vs. Water,” which begins airing Sept. 18.
The Apple-compatible app allows viewers to watch past episodes of the venerable reality show, as well as tune in for a new season of CBS.com’s “Survivor After Show” with host Parvati Shallow, winner of “Survivor: Micronesia.” The online show begins Sept. 26.
Users of the app cannot watch initial broadcasts of “Survivor.”
Starting with the premiere episode of “Blood vs. Water,” viewers will be able to sync the app with the show — whether watching live, on-demand or via DVR — to access the second-screen content.
The second-screen features are tailored to each new episode and will offer details on the castaways and behind-the-scenes information on the challenges, along with photos, exclusive videos, location details, polls, quizzes and the ability to easily follow and join the social conversation around the show.
“Our goal is to bring fans even closer to the game this season,” said Rob Gelick, SVP and GM of digital platforms, entertainment at CBS Interactive. “With the synced second-screen experience and the return of “After Show,” we’re giving fans the opportunity to dive deeper into the strategies the castaways will use to try to outwit, outplay and outlast one another.”
Viewers can watch current episodes on the app eight days after initial broadcast, as well as the next-day on ad-supported CBS.com.
