Time Warner Cable Launching App for Apple iOS16 Apr, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
App allows access to 1,100 hours of VOD programming and live TV to authenticated users of the Apple operating system
Time Warner Cable April 16 launched an app for the Apple iOS, enabling authenticated viewers to watch on-demand programming and live TV on an iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone and iPod iTouch over any WiFi connection.
Multichannel video program distributors such as Time Warner Cable, Comcast and Dish Network are embracing technology that enables subscribers to access programming on demand in an effort to thwart competition from SVOD services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus and Aereo TV.
TWC TV features more than 1,100 hours of VOD TV shows and movies from 26 networks and up to 11 live TV news, sports and entertainment channels. The offering includes Time Warner Cable local news, traffic and weather channels NY1, NY1 Noticias, YNN and News 14.
This update to TWC TV is designed to improve watching live TV with the introduction of new filtering and sorting features for the 200-plus live channels.
“We were the first provider to bring live television to the iPad in the home,” said Mike Angus, SVP and GM of video for Time Warner Cable. “Since then, we’ve increased the number of platforms and devices on which our customers can watch live television, and added thousands of hours of VOD programming at no additional cost.”
Channel line-ups vary by market and depend on the bundled package to which a customer subscribes. A Time Warner Cable authorized modem is still required for in-home access to the complete TWC TV line-up.
In home viewing of the app is available on Apple iOS, Android devices running release 4.0 or higher, PCs and Macs via TWCTV.com, and Roku devices via the TWC TV channel.
