Starz, Comcast Enter New Agreement

1 Jul, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey

Starz Entertainment’s Starz, Encore and MoviePlex channels, including related high-def and on-demand offerings, are now available to Comcast Corp. cable subscribers, as part of a long-term distribution deal. Previously Comcast had separate deals for Starz and Encore channels.

“Extending the broader relationship between the companies provides a great pipeline of commercial-free movies and original programming for years to come,” said Matt Bond, EVP of content acquisition for Comcast.

The deal also expands where Comcast subscribers can get Starz and Encore content, with roughly 600 programs available online. MoviePlex Online will launch later this summer, offering at least 120 additional TV and movie titles.

“The agreement with Comcast extends and expands our relationship in a way that benefits consumers and provides Comcast with even more flexibility in presenting our programming,” said Bill Myers, Starz Entertainment’s president and COO. “We are extremely pleased to enter into an agreement with one of our long-standing partners and provide them with a value-rich collection of premium programming across multiple platforms.”
