Starz Airing 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Beginning Sept. 1015 Jul, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Starz will air Star Wars: The Force Awakens, beginning Sept. 10 on its premium television channels and online. The seventh installment in the franchise will premiere on all six Starz channels at 9 p.m. ET/PT and again at 11:20 p.m. ET/PT. It will also be available for download via the free Starz app, which costs $8.99 per month to use.
The Lucasfilm release, which generated more than $2 billion at the global box office, is the last major theatrical title in Disney’s pay-TV distribution agreement with Starz, which ends this year. Disney going forward will make its theatrical releases available exclusively to Netflix in the premium-TV window.
The title is also the top-selling disc in 2016 with $122.7 million in revenue generated from nearly 5.3 million combined DVD/Blu-ray Disc units sold since its April 5 retail release.
“We are offering a variety of ways for fans and subscribers to watch. We want to make the movie as accessible as the fans’ appetites for what is truly one of the greatest franchises of all time,” Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement.
