Sony Movie Channel Airing Behind-the-Scenes Special of 'Amazing Spider-Man 2'1 Apr, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Bonus material typically included with packaged media to air weekend before sequel’s theatrical bow
The Sony Movie Channel, beginning April 25, will air “Heroes and Villains: The Amazing World of Spider-Man,” a behind-the-scenes look at the Marvel web slinger and in advance of the May 2 theatrical bow of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
Sony, which is looking to jumpstart a miserable 2013 theatrical campaign that saw the studio downsize hundreds of employees, is taking the unusual step of showcasing the 30-minute featurette as an extended trailer, which includes Garfield, Stone, Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamati, among others, discussing the film.
The Amazing Spider-Man generated $752 million at the global box office and another $35 million in disc sales in 2012, according to The-Numbers.com. The movie was a reboot of the franchise that saw Garfield replace Tobey Maguire in the title role, Stone replace Kirsten Dunst as the female lead (but as a different character), and director Marc Webb replace Sam Raimi.
Launched by Sony Pictures Television, Sony Movie Channel is a multiplatform service bundled with pay-TV programming airing content culled from the studio’s archive of more than 3,500 movies.
