Dish Network Aug. 5 reported it lost 81,000 pay-TV subscribers in the second quarter ended June 30. The satellite TV operator lost 44,000 video subs during the previous-year period. It ended the period with 13.9 million subs.
Dish, which launched standalone subscription streaming service Sling TV in February, said it added 638,000 gross pay-TV subs in the quarter. The company does not disclose actual Sling TV subs, preferring to incorporate them within pay-TV sub data.
Analysts contend Sling TV, which offers live TV access to about 20 cable channels, including ESPN, AMC and TNT, has from 103,000 to 207,000 subs.
The satellite TV operator added 4,000 broadband subs to end the quarter with 595,000 subs.
