31 Mar, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Satellite operator DirecTV March 31 said it signed a distribution deal with Pasiones, a 24-hour channel showcasing the popular Spanish-language soap operas known as “telenovelas.”

DirecTV will offer the programming, much of which originates from Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela, including “behind the scenes” footage, on DirecTV Más (channel 44), the El Segundo, Calif.-based operator’s platform for Spanish-language sports, movies, music, news and educational shows.

Among the telenovelas offered by Pasiones include “Xica da Silva,” “Chocolate con Pimienta,” “Pantanal,” “La Mujer de Judas,” “Luciana y Nicolas,” “Maria Bonita,” “Don Juan y su Bella Dama,” “El Derecho de Nacer” and “La Baby Sister.”

The channel will also premiere “Doña Beija,” a top Brazilian telenovela that has been requested by the channel’s audience.

“Pasiones fits perfectly into that mix and we are thrilled to add their ‘telenovela’ programming to our DIRECTV Más platform,” said Toby Berlin, VP of DirecTV programming acquisitions, in a statement.
