Comcast Upgrades X1 Video Sports Platform

21 Aug, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Comcast Cable Aug. 21 announced upgrades to its cloud-based X1 set-top for sports enthusiasts, including a more immersive guide.

Specifically, X1 subscribers — which comprise 55% of Comcast’s video household footprint — now have access to landing pages for each league, including NFL, MLB, NCAAF, soccer, cricket, tennis and golf, among others.

Comcast also integrated a real-time score strip within each league’s landing page, in addition to enabling subs to dive deeper into stats through the X1 sports app.

The nation’s No. 1 cable operator launched X1 to retain and attract subs in an age of over-the-top video.

Subs can access the new guide by saying "sports" or any league like "NFL" into the X1 voice remote, tapping the "guide" button twice or via a link from within the sports app. In the future, users will be able to customize the landing menu to display only the sports, teams and athletes they care about most.

“We are committed to delivering the best viewing experience for our sports fans,” Jason Angelides, executive director of product management for Comcast Cable, wrote in a blog post.
