Comcast Offering Netflix 4K Content on X1 Set-Top

31 Oct, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Comcast Cable Oct. 31 announced the availability of Netflix Ultra HD 4K programming on the Xfinity X1 set-top box. Xfinity subscribers can now browse Netflix 4K movies and TV shows alongside live, on-demand, DVR and Web programming.

Comcast began offering direct access to Netflix to Xfinity subs in late 2016. Earlier this year, Comcast said 30% of X1 subs streamed Netflix.

“We remain focused on providing our customers high-quality entertainment experiences across platforms, which includes easy access to the best 4K programming,” Brynn Lev, VP, editorial and programming, content strategy and operations, at Comcast Cable, said in a statement.

Integrated throughout the X1 platform, subs can access Netflix’s entire 4K portfolio, including more than 1,200 hours of original films, documentaries, specials and series.

Netflix recommends an Internet connection speed of at least 25 megabits per second to stream 4K titles, and Xfinity X1 customers will need the XG1v4 set top box. If a movie or TV show is available in 4K, the default playback will be in 4K.

Comcast said 4K content on X1 in the near future would include search and discovery with the voice remote, editorialized collections within Xfinity On Demand and the option to choose a playback method (4K, HD, etc.) by program.

“We are thrilled to make the popular Netflix catalog of 4K programming available to X1 customers and will continue to rapidly expand the UHD programming choices available on the platform,” Lev said.
