Comcast Has its Own ‘New Moon’ Bonus Exclusives10 Mar, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Comcast Corp. March 10 said it will include two exclusive special features with the 12:01 a.m. March 20 video-on-demand (VOD) bow of The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
The postmodern, vampire-themed Romeo and Juliet story from Summit Entertainment, which generated $297 million at the domestic box office and had the third-largest opening weekend (at the time) at $142 million, is expected to be one of the biggest DVD/Blu-ray Disc/VOD releases in 2010.
In sticking with Summit’s multipronged retail strategy for New Moon, the studio allocated exclusive bonus material, including director commentary, making-of, theatrical clips and assorted documentaries, across all distribution channels (packaged media/cable/satellite) and key retailers.
Indeed, DirecTV March 9 said its VOD subscribers would have free access to two special features, including “The Subtle Details,” which offers a behind-the-scenes look at New Moon’s production design, costuming and related material; and “Chris Weitz Takes the Helm,” documenting the transition from Catherine Hardwicke, director of Twilight, to New Moon director Chris Weitz, and his vision of the future of the series.
The director’s commentary exclusive to Comcast features 13 minutes of Chris Weitz (see clip) discussing a number of favorite New Moon scenes, including Bella’s birthday party, Bella’s cliff dive, Bella rescuing Edward in Italy and Bella’s first encounter with the Volturi.
A separate cable industry exclusive includes the documentary Life After Twilight, which takes a look at how the actors’ lives have changed following the phenomenal success of the first movie in the franchise.
New Moon highlights Comcast’s most aggressive monthly VOD slate featuring 16 new releases day-and-date with DVD/Blu-ray Disc launches.
