When Comcast launched its Watchathon Week promotion in 2012, one of the goals was to thwart Netflix’s binge-viewing marketing angle by enticing pay-TV subscribers with one-week access to thousands of on-demand TV shows and movies from more than 50 networks. Times have changed.

Fast-forward to the present and Netflix and Comcast are buddies with the former now the newest participant to Xfinity Watchathon, which runs from April 3-9. Xfinity X1 customers (regardless of a Netflix subscription) will have unlimited access to the streaming video pioneer’s catalog of movies and shows, including original series “House of Cards,” “Orange Is The New Black,” “Stranger Things” and “The Crown.”

“Whether customers are eager to start “Stranger Things” or catch up on “Orange Is the New Black,” Watchathon is a great time for Xfinity customers to see for themselves what the [Netflix] buzz is all about,” Bill Holmes, global head of business development at Netflix, said in a statement.

Xfinity TV subs watched more than 70 million hours of on-demand content during Watchathon Week in 2016, a 10% increase from 2015, and inclusive of a 40% increase in viewing across portable devices.
