Report: Foreign Blu-ray Disc Sales to Increase 70%10 May, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Despite declines in DVD movie sales in the United States, United Kingdom and Japan in 2009, select international markets reported positive or flat disc (including Blu-ray Disc) sales, according to a new report.
In its 2010 home video forecast report, Media Control GfK found that the number of Blu-ray units sold through to consumers is expected to increase this year on average nearly 70% across the key international markets.
The markets include Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Australia.
"Despite global declines in DVD sales, the local economies of the international markets were not all down in 2009," said Brad Hackley, president of Media Control GfK USA.
