DLNA: Certified Players Double in 2010

27 Jul, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey

The number of Blu-ray Disc player models certified by the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) has nearly doubled in 2010 to 105, the industry group said July 27.

DLNA certification requires “rigorous interoperability” testing for networking capabilities, the group says, and products with DLNA certification range from TVs to mobile devices to printers.

“Consumers have high expectations for interconnectivity between devices to watch movies, listen to music and even share photos,” said John Revie, SVP of home entertainment marketing for Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung’s Blu-ray players with AllShare and multimedia sharing across DLNA certified devices are meeting the consumers' demands for an easy, seamless experience and access to their media from one place.”

Fifty-one Blu-ray player models have been certified this year, including ones from JVC, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung and Sony.

“DLNA certified Blu-ray players are helping to bring new forms of entertainment to the home screen,” said Donna Moore, executive director of DLNA. “As the role of the TV in the digital home evolves, consumers' expectations are changing along with it.”
