DivX Expands to Soniq Brand Blu-ray Players21 Jun, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Digital media company DivX June 21 said it has introduced its high-definition video playback technology to Soniq-branded Blu-ray Disc players manufactured in China and distributed in Australia and New Zealand.
San Diego-based DivX said its “Plus HD” software would be included in the upcoming QPB302B Blu-ray player.
Melbourne-based Soniq, which also manufactures plasma and LCD televisions, DVR recorders, set-top boxes, iPod dock speakers and portable DVD players, primarily sells its products via retail partner JB-Hifi.
"DivX has an extremely well known brand that is associated with high-quality video, so adding their technology will help us enhance our product line,” said Soniq CEO Sunny Zeng, in a statement.
DivX CEO Kevin Hell said the deal will expedite delivery of high-definition content in Australia and New Zealand from major Hollywood studios via online content retailers worldwide. Indeed, DivX earlier this month said it would be acquired by Sonic Solutions, manufacturer of the RoxioNow movie download software, in a cash and stock deal worth about $325 million.
