Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is including Blu-ray Disc exclusive screensavers for one of its latest releases. Not a bad choice when that film earned the 1992 Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

Robert Redford’s 1992 Montana family drama, A River Runs Through It, streets on Blu-ray July 28 for $38.96.

“It’s a beautiful film, obviously, and very well-suited for Blu-ray,” said Noah Snyder, grandson of Norman Maclean, author of A River Runs Through It.

Snyder, who appeared in the 1992 film alongside Brad Pitt, Tom Skerritt and Emily Lloyd, praised the finished work from director Redford. Along with winning the Academy Award for Best Cinematography, the film was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score.

“It was amazing for me as a young man to be working with all these people on the film,” Snyder said. “It’s so hard to be out there in Montana and see something that beautiful, and try and make it look as good on video as standing there. The movie on Blu-ray does that.”

Narrated by Redford, the film follows the lives of two very different brothers and their minister father, set against the backdrop of rural Montana and fly fishing.

In addition to a 32-page booklet with photos, pages from the screenplay and talent files, the Blu-ray comes packed with never-before-seen deleted scenes, two all-new featurettes, and Blackfoot River high-def screen savers.
