Summit Gets Date with Blockbuster Judge9 Feb, 2011 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Summit Entertainment Feb. 24 is scheduled to have a hearing with the judge in charge of Blockbuster Inc.'s bankruptcy.
Summit is attempting to get payment from the Dallas-based rental icon for $9.5 million in disc shipments of the third installment of its popular "Twilight" franchise and critically-acclaimed Red, among other titles.
The studio, in a Feb. 3 motion, alleged Blockbuster could not make payment on initial disc shipments despite claims the rental chain generated more than $8 million in revenue from retail release of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.
Blockbuster, which filed for Chapter 11 protection last September, has repeatedly pushed back deadlines for filing a plan of reorganization, among other provisions. The company is looking for a new chief executive while its head of corporate communications departed Dec. 31.
