NCR Corp. March 15 said it will have installed Blockbuster Express movie rental kiosks in all 365 Sheetz convenience stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina and West Virginia by the end of the month.
Duluth, Ga.-based NCR is manufacturing and installing 10,000 Express DVD rental kiosks in the United States this year through a license agreement with Dallas-based Blockbuster.
The rental icon is incorporating kiosks into a multiplatform offering that allows consumers to rent and buy new-release DVDs and Blu-ray Discs in-store, online, digitally and vending.
Founded in 1952, family-owned Sheetz operates 24-hour convenience food stores that sell gasoline and allow customers to order food to go via touchscreen menus.
“We considered a number of different options when adding a DVD rental partner,” said Josh Campbell, beverage/GM sales manager, Sheetz. “It is clear that NCR is thinking about the future of entertainment while providing the best customer experience today. We also liked that they were able to quickly deploy the kiosks across almost all of our stores.”
Earlier this month NCR said it upgraded the Blockbuster Express Web site so consumers can now rent online up to three DVD movies at a time and pick up at the nearest kiosk — a first among self-serve vendors.
