12 Jul, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Blockbuster LLC through the summer once again is rolling out movie matinee pricing on select titles.

The Dish Network-owned rental brand said consumers from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday can rent any catalog DVD or Blu-ray Disc movie — normally priced at $1.99 — for only $1.49 for the first night. As an added bonus, they can take a 20-ounce Coca-Cola product at no additional cost. All rentals are 99 cents per day after the first day.

Typically, new-release rentals start at $4.99 for a seven-day window.

“When customers want a movie right away on a hot afternoon, there's no sweating summer at Blockbuster — they can simply walk into a participating Blockbuster store and pick out a low priced movie,” said Kevin Lewis, chief marketing officer at Blockbuster. “With these promotions, there's never a better time to experience the best of what Blockbuster has to offer.”

Indeed, Blockbuster is also introducing the Lazy Days of Summer Promotion that can extend your weekend by offering a low-priced movie rental for 49 cents. Every Sunday through Sept. 4, consumers can rent any $1.99 or 99-cent DVD or Blu-ray movie for only 49 cents for the first day. All rentals are only 99 cents per day after the first day.
