Blockbuster Signs Melissa Rivers for Academy Awards Website13 Feb, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Blockbuster LLC Feb. 13 said it has inked a deal with reality TV personality Melissa Rivers to join BlockbusterAwards.com, an interactive website for people to host, manage and participate in a fantasy league for the Feb. 24 Academy Awards.
Rivers, daughter of comedienne Joan Rivers, will share her favorite Oscar picks for the night and host her own pool on BlockbusterAwards.com. The mother and daughter have long been fixtures on the Academy Awards’ red carpet, interviewing and critiquing celebrities’ wardrobes.
“What better way to celebrate the Academy Awards than with a friendly online competition?” Melissa said in a statement.
During the live broadcast of the event, BlockbusterAwards.com will update with real-time stats based on individual picks and pools. Participants can track their results — and against Melissa’s celebrity pool — from their home computer, iPhone, iPad or Android device.
“Melissa Rivers has her finger on the pop culture pulse,” said Mitch Weinraub, Blockbuster VP of product marketing. “She’s interviewed Academy Awards nominees over the years and launched a successful show around all things celebrities, fashion and trends. As a mother and daughter, Melissa also celebrates family during these special Hollywood moments.”
