Blockbuster Sells Mini Laptop Computer

Blockbuster Inc. July 17 said it would begin offering the Archos 10 netbook in about 1,000 corporate-owned stores. One of the first mini laptops to provide direct access to media, the Archos netbook will include an embedded link to www.blockbuster.com.

The $299.99 device features a 10-inch ultra-bright LED screen and a small keyboard. Also included in the WiFi-ready Netbook are an Intel ATOM processor, 1GB RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Microsoft Windows XP and a built-in webcam. Featured software include Lotus Symphony, Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, parental controls, virus protection and multimedia applications such as XnView for viewing pictures and vTuner for Web TV and Radio.

“Blockbuster strives to provide consumers with convenient access to media entertainment when and where they want it,” said Joanne DeLorenzo, VP of product for Blockbuster. “Enhancing our consumer electronics offerings with an affordably priced netbook that allows customers to access our online rental, retail and download services, whether they're at home or on the road, is a natural fit.”
