Blockbuster Inc. said it would hold blood drives in select stores March 20 on the eve of the highly anticipated Blu-ray and DVD releases of teen vampire film Twilight from Summit Home Entertainment.
Customers will receive a pint of ice cream in exchange for donating a pint of blood, the Dallas-based No. 1 DVD rental company said in a statement. Hastings Entertainment is holding similar blood drives in conjunction with Twilight.
Twilight, based on a series of books by Stephenie Meyer and starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, grossed about $190 million theatrically.
Separately, maverick investor Carl Icahn March 11 acquired more than 7,000 shares of Blockbuster Class A common stock, upping his stake to 18.8 million shares, or 9.7% of the company, according to a regulatory filing.
