Blockbuster Bows Holiday Clearance Deals

6 Dec, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Blockbuster LLC, which is shuttering all corporate-owned stores by early next year, has launched an aggressive discount campaign aimed at the winter holidays.

Beginning Dec. 6, all company-owned Blockbuster stores will offer three DVDs for $10. Individual movies are available at more than 70% off, with previously viewed titles originally priced at $14.99 now available for $3.99. Additionally, Blu-ray Disc titles and video games are offered at steep discounts.

"Game consoles, HDTVs and computers are topping wish lists this season, and once the wrapping comes off, it's time to put those great gifts to use," Mitch Weinraub, VP of product for Blockbuster, said in a statement. "Whether shoppers are looking to complement a big gift, need an affordable stocking stuffer or are starting a family holiday movie night tradition, Blockbuster has an array of options at a great price."

The promotion comes in the wake of last month’s announcement that Blockbuster would be closing about 300 U.S.-based corporate retail stores.
