Blockbuster Inc. said that through Jan. 21, 2010, it would offer exclusively for rent Paramount Digital Entertainment’s episodic Web serial Circle of Ei8ht as a full-length movie in-store, online and via download.
Dallas-based Blockbuster first announced the deal with Paramount in October as another step in synchronizing and marketing its multiplatform distribution channels.
Originally a 10-episode thriller on MySpace from October through Dec. 8, Paramount’s movie version of Circle of Ei8ht contains extra unrated footage, an alternate ending that was previously only available through an interactive game, and a new behind-the-scenes bonus feature explaining the plot of the film.
The movie tells the story of a young woman who moves into an historic building, The Dante, where she encounters an assortment of neighbors harboring a mysterious secret that unravels in a chain of deaths and supernatural interactions.
Blockbuster’s rental also will incorporate other bonus features, including “On Haunted,” a segment explaining the real life mystery surrounding the film’s location, and “A Day in the Life of a PA,” which highlights a day in a new production assistant's life on the set.
“Offering this exclusive rental through our stores, through the mail and through digital download continues to demonstrate how Blockbuster is committed to giving customers access to the entertainment they want,” said Keith Leopard, director of content acquisitions at Blockbuster.
