Best Buy Touts ‘Movie Cash’ Offers for Blu-ray Purchases25 Jun, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel
The July 20 theatrical launch of director Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, is getting a push through special movie cash promotions touted through retailers such as Best Buy.
The retailer in its weekly Sunday newspaper circular highlighted a voucher for $5 off a movie ticket with the $9.99 catalog Blu-ray Disc purchase of Batman Begins or The Dark Knight from Warner Home Video.
Best Buy has been using its circular to tout a $10 voucher Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is offering for the July 3 theatrical launch of "Spider-Man" reboot The Amazing Spider-Man, with the $9.99 Blu-ray purchase of Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2 or Spider-Man 3. All three titles include access to UltraViolet copies of the films.
Meanwhile, interim CEO Mike Mikan offered scant details at a shareholder meeting last week regarding the search for a permanent CEO or details as to how the No. 1 CE retailer plans to end Wall Street’s perception that it has become a showroom for less expensive Internet retailers.
Best Buy earlier this year said it would shutter 50 underperforming stores and 400 corporate employees in an effort to cut $800 million in expenses.
Mikan was named interim CEO two months ago, following the abrupt resignation of CEO Brian Dunn and chairman-founder Richard Schulz, after it was determined the latter failed to disclose to the board his knowledge of an improper relationship between Dunn and a female employee.
