Best Buy Co. is offering the Nov. 17 Star Trek Blu-ray Disc release for $4.99 with the purchase of an Insignia wireless Blu-ray player for $199.99.
The box office hit — considered one of the pre-eminent fourth-quarter releases from Paramount Home Entertainment — tallied nearly $385 million in worldwide ticket sales, including nearly $258 million in the United States, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
The Minneapolis-based No. 1 consumer electronics retailer is making a concerted effort to push Blu-ray software and hardware this holiday season, including offering catalog BD releases for under $8.
Indeed, Best Buy is offering $2 and $3 discounts on standard DVD and Blu-ray Star Trek releases during the first two hours of business Nov. 17, in addition to stores re-opening at midnight.
The three-disc BD of Star Trek (which includes a digital copy) retails for $23.99, while a two-disc DVD release (with digital copy) sells for $22.99. The single DVD of Star Trek retails for $14.99, while the Best Buy exclusive limited edition Star Trek Blu-ray gift set retails for $39.99.
