Best Buy Co. Jan. 20 said its Geek Squad is offering consultation, television set-up and wireless networking starting from $99.99 in time for the Super Bowl Feb. 7.
The 20,000-member tech support group, a unit of the Minneapolis-based No. 1 consumer electronics retailer, was the first organized effort by a national chain to market technology customer service.
The offer is a response to increasingly competitive in-home tech support market, which Wal-Mart entered during the winter holidays, and Target joined Jan. 17, offering TV delivery and installation service for $99.
Best Buy through Feb. 6 also is offering significant discounts on Samsung LED televisions, including a 46-inch model with 1080p resolution for $1,599.99 — $900 below suggested retail. The TV, together with a Samsung sound bar, wireless Blu-ray Disc player, HDMI cable and free Geek Squad installation, is available for $1,999.99 — $1,400 below SRP.
