Barnes & Noble Nook Offering Google Play in the U.K.

3 May, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Nook Media, a unit of Barnes & Noble, May 3 said it is now embedding the Google Play platform on its line of Nook HD and Nook HD+ tablets in the United Kingdom.

Google Play allows access to more than 700,000 Android apps, games, songs and movies, including transactional and electronic sellthrough TV shows and movies — some with UltraViolet functionality.

Google Play and the other Google services will be available to all new and existing Nook HD and Nook HD+ customers in the U.K. at no cost through an automatic over-the-air update that will roll out to all devices connected to Wi-Fi, beginning May 3.

Nook tablets are available in John Lewis, Argos, Asda, Dixons, Sainsbury, Waitrose, Blackwell’s and Foyles, and also through www.nook.co.uk.
