Anchor Bay, Weinstein Announce Street Date for ‘The King’s Speech’1 Feb, 2011 By: Chris Tribbey
Anchor Bay and The Weinstein Co. April 19 will release Oscar nominee The King’s Speech on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, the first release under the two companies’ new agreement. Weinstein bought a 25% stake in Anchor Bay’s parent company Starz in early January.
Grossing $73 million at the domestic box office to date The King’s Speech leads the field with a dozen Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. It’s already picked up two Screen Actors Guild awards, the Producers Guild of America award for Outstanding Producer of a Theatrical Motion Picture, the Director’s Guild of America award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Feature Film (Tom Hooper), and the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama (Colin Firth).
List price for Blu-ray will be $39.99 with DVD at $29.98. An audio commentary with director Hooper, a 20-minute making-of featurette and archival footage of King George VI will be included in the bonus features, with Anchor Bay promising more to be announced.
