Anchor Bay Grabs ‘Meet Monica Velour’20 Sep, 2010 By: Chris Tribbey
Meet Monica Velour, a comedy starring Kim Cattrall (“Sex and the City”) and Brian Dennehy (Rambo: First Blood, Gorky Park), and the thriller Carjacked, with Maria Bello (The Cooler, A History of Violence) and Stephen Dorff (Somewhere, Shadowboxer) were among the films Anchor Bay Entertainment picked up at the Toronto International Film Festival.
“Meet Monica Velour is a treasure, and we’re proud to bring it to Anchor Bay,” said Anchor Bay president Bill Clark. “Not only does the film boast a career performance from Kim Cattrall, but it’s also a remarkable introduction to a pair of bright new talents: writer/director Keith Bearden and leading man Dustin Ingram.”
The story has Cattrall as a run-down 49-year-old former porn star, whose biggest fan is more than a bit surprised to find her living in a trailer park.
“Meet Monica Velour was a special working experience for me,” Cattrall said. “I loved the challenge of creating a completely new character so unlike what most people perceive me as playing.”
Carjacked, which begins filming Nov. 15, is about a single mom who must survive and outwit a carjacker (Dorff) who’s on the run from the police.
“We have a world-class director, two terrific stars and a great partner in Anchor Bay Films,” said producer Daniel Grodnik. “I can’t think of a better combination to deliver an edge-of-your-seat thriller.”
